THE NEEDFACT: Soaring North Carolina land prices are a daunting barrier to mission congregations ready to build and grow. These new starts are usually located in growth areas where need and opportunity are great and land prices are extremely high. THE VISIONThe NC Synod Mission Outreach Committee has initiated a program to give Lutherans an opportunity to assist these young congregations in their ministry efforts. Each year, around Pentecost Sunday and Reformation Sunday, Lutherans will be asked to place a separate $20 check (or bill) in their church offering, marked "20/20 Site Vision Fund." $20 twice a year is feasible for most members and when added together, can have a real impact on the success of these struggling pioneer congregations. Contributing NC Synod congregations will then send their donations to the NC Synod Office where they will be deposited into the 20/20 Site Vision Fund. The outreach committee will use the funds to help young mission starts purchase their first church sites. HOW TO GET INVOLVEDHelping these new starts purchase their first sites frees their funds for critical first-stage mission and ministry. The Rev. John Weinbach, volunteer mission partner coordinator, is seeking the names of one or two people in each congregation to serve as contact persons for the 20/20 Site Vision initiative. E-mail him or call 336-603-4071. Pr. John Weinbach is available for presentations to your congregation, Sunday school or group. Brochures and special envelopes are available from Jill Nelson at the NC Synod Office. Download the brochure. You may also contribute as an individual. Individual checks or a single check from your congregation may be made out to "NC Synod," marked "20/20 Site Vision" and sent to the synod office. (Link synod office to contact page.) |
