Post-Hurricane Irene Help
Still Needed
|
Hurricane Irene left a wide path of destruction in
eastern NC with 8000 people with homes damaged or
destroyed. As you have probably read, a great deal of
the damage is on the southern part of the Outer Banks
and along the Pamlico Sound. These homes are primary
residences of people who have lived in those areas for
generations and often make their living from the
inlets and the ocean. The Lutheran role for many
years has been to work with other denominations to
meet long-term needs. We do this work through the NC
Interfaith Disaster Response Committee which prioritizes
and allocates funds raised to help the most serious
situations. Funds collected through your church
will help many people get back on their feet.
Thrivent Financial will supplement these gifts up to
a collective total of $3000. Please make your checks and
gifts to your church and mark NCIDRC in the memo
line. (This is also the NC organization to which funds
raised by LDR will go) . Clean-up
buckets still needed to help victims of Hurricane
Irene:The storage units for clean up
kits are empty and 5300 clean up buckets are needed
as quickly as possible. Please consider this proposal
quickly. All the information you need is here.

Lutheran Family Services
Desperately Seeking Wheels
|
Kids getting older? Thinking of trading
in Mom's minivan for something with a bit
more pizzazz?
Lutheran Family Services in the
Carolinas (LFS) is desperately seeking four new
or gently used minivans to transport developmentally
disabled youth and adults. According to Myra Griffie,
LFS chief operating officer, "Our fleet of vehicles has
aged to the point that repairs are no longer
practical, but there simply aren't funds available right
now for new or even good used vehicles. Because of
certain legal restrictions, we cannot accept the
large 15 passenger vans, but a minivan would truly be a
blessing!"
Griffie states that the organization
is also in need of a good reliable vehicle of most
any type for Kinard Manor, its residence for homeless
veterans located in Greenwood, SC.
To learn the
"how to" of donating a vehicle, including important tax
information regarding the deductibility of your gift,
contact chief development officer Betty Kuhn at (704)
754-7563 or Michael Handy, development associate, at
(704) 940-3309.
