Christ the King Lutheran Church, Cary
God’s work. Our hands. took on a big mission at Christ the King, Cary, (CTK) as the congregation launched its third-quarter focus on food insecurity. The kickoff event, Feed the Need, was a spectacular success, raising more than $16,000 in grocery purchases, gift cards, and monetary donations for the Dorcas Ministries Food Pantry. A special shout-out to Timmy Eggiman, who organized this CTK effort as his confirmation project.
Many factors contributed to this remarkable total, but one story captures the spirit of generosity. After filling a grocery cart with food, one family reflected on the great need in the community—and on how blessed they were. Between services, they returned to buy another full cart of groceries. Such faith and compassion embody the heart of CTK’s ministry.
That same spirit continued on September 6, when CTK partnered with Lord of Life, Garner, for a Rise Against Hunger meal-packing event. Coordinated by seventh grader Britton Walker as his confirmation project, the event brought together more than 130 volunteers working in three shifts to package 15,700 meals. These meals will soon help feed at-risk families in Ukraine, impacted by the ongoing war.
From local food drives to global meal-packing, Christ the King continues to live out God’s call to “feed the need” with generosity, faith, and love.
