Congregations are centers for mission where people of faith celebrate, learn, and connect with one another and others around the world through service and weekly worship.
The Congregation Council is an elected body of the congregation which has oversight of the life of the congregation, including its worship life, to the end that everything is done in accordance with the Word of God and the faith and practice of the ELCA.
Council leaders will find helpful resources here. More information is also available on the NC Synod's Church Vitality page.
INNOVATION SUMMIT & BOOK STUDY
On Tuesday, June 29, we launched the Innovative Church book study with the Rev. Dr. Scott Cormode! This summer book study will culminate with a one-day Innovation Summit on Saturday, October 16. Watch the May Zoom Recording for more details.
You are invited to pull together a team to be a part of this exciting new event! All are welcome. Invite your entire council.
The first chapter of Scott’s book, The Innovative Church, reads, “The church as we know it is calibrated for a world that no longer exists.” Let’s work together over the course of the next several months to think about how we are able to keep our rich history and adapt to an ever-changing world.
2021 Council Zoom Meetings
Council presidents are invited to join Tammy Jones West along with Bishop Tim & staff for a time of conversation, prayer, and sharing around your service on congregation council.
Over the course of this year, we will gather each month around a different topic to share resources, check-in, and learn from one another.
Feel free to invite your executive members of council, if applicable.
Monthly email updates and Zoom links are sent to council presidents as reported to the synod. Use the link above to share your council president's contact information.
Recordings of meetings are shared in the tabs below.

Core Values Devotionals for Councils
The living Word, Jesus the Christ, is the very center of all we do. In Jesus Christ, we experience God’s grace and are set free to be God’s beloved in this world.
Christ-Centered Devotional Handout
There is enough; there is more than enough. We will trust God’s provision for tomorrow. With gratitude for what God first gives us, we live and give generously today.
Generosity Devotional Handout
Just as we belong to one body in Christ, we belong to each other. Inspired by the Gospel, we will choose to live and work together for the sake of the world.
Relationship Devotional Handout
God’s deep desire is to reconcile all relationships—with each other and creation. We will actively strive to experience the fullness of God through radical welcome, diversity, justice, compassion, peacemaking, advocacy, and healing.
